Biography

Born on November 19, 1990, in Dusseldorf, Germany, Duran Etemadi is the only child of the legendary Afghan singer, Ahmad Walid Etemadi, a prominent figure in Afghan music history.

Duran’s musical journey commenced at the tender age of 4, inspired by his father, Ahmad Walid. His passion for music manifested early as he began playing the keyboard and emulating his father’s singing. Recognizing his innate talent, Duran’s parents enrolled him at Musikschule Jörgensen in Dusseldorf at the age of 6, where he delved into formal training in keyboard and piano.

In 1999, driven by a desire to explore his roots, Duran sought instruction from Iranian producer and singer Hamid Nadjafi, immersing himself in Persian pop music and gaining foundational knowledge in music production.

In the year 2002, Duran, wanting to deepen his musical expertise, followed his father’s advice to learn Indian classical music, the foundation of Afghan music. His father took him to Rafi Music School, where Ustad Same Rafi, a student of Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, taught him classical music and the harmonium, an Indian/Afghan instrument.

Simultaneously, Duran commenced his stage career at the age of 10, performing alongside his father at weddings and concerts. Over the years, he garnered fame within the Afghan community, performing and producing for renowned artists such as Aryana Sayeed, Najim Nawabi, Haider Salim, and many others.

Education remained a priority, and Duran successfully completed his studies in Business Administration at FOM Dusseldorf in 2019. Following graduation, he worked for the German insurance company ARAG from 2020 to 2023.

In 2014, Duran transitioned to the forefront as a vocalist, quickly becoming a local sensation in Germany. His debut song, “Independent,” marked a departure from traditional Afghan music, and subsequent hits like “Laily” solidified his status as an artist with a unique style.

Duran’s international acclaim surged, performing in 11 different countries within the first two years of his singing career. Notably, in 2018, he joined forces with TriVision, collaborating on various projects and gaining global recognition in 2021.

Beyond his singing career, Duran is a prolific producer, contributing to TV shows, writing film music, and engaging in collaborations with industry icons like Farhad Darya and Ustad Vaheed Kaacemy. His dedication to music was recognized in 2023 when TriVision honored him for his excellence and commitment.

In addition to his multilingual fluency in Dari, German, English, and Pashto, Duran’s versatility extends to playing six different instruments, showcasing his prowess as a talented musician, singer, and producer on the international stage.
